Ice Skating At Canal Park
Nothing marks the onset of winter in the Capitol Riverfront quite like seeing Canal Park transition from splash park to ice skating rink. Free skate or take a lesson, then treat yourself to a wood-fired Neopolitan-style pizza next door at Il Parco.
Mistletoe Hunting In Yards Park
In the spirit of the season, the Yards Park has installed a total of 8 mistle-toe clad photo-ops throughout the riverfront area. Get creative with a mini seasonal photoshoot then post to your favorite social media channel using the hashtag #decktheyards for a chance to be featured by the Capitol Riverfront BID and The Yards.
Capitol Riverfront Tree Lighting & Decorating
Join your Capitol Riverfront neighbors for the 2nd annual lighting and decorating of the Canal Park trees! Bring an ornament to contribute and enjoy live music from local favorite Jason Trawick, coffee and hot cocoa from Philz Coffee and some sweet treats from Osteria Morini. If you’re able, you can also bring a toy to donate to the Toys For Tots donation bin, provided by the Capitol Riverfront BID.
Holiday Gift Shopping While Supporting Local Vendors
If you have yet to pop into Steadfast Supply, put it on your to-do list for this weekend. Described as a “pop-up within a pop-up”, this ridiculously cool space in Yards Park is home to displays from 15-20 rotating local makers offering everything from skincare to t-shirts. Shopping here almost guarantees you’ll be serving up the most unique gifts amongst your inner circle this year. There’s even a designated communal workspace with free wi-fi and a number of unique, often free events hosted in the space.
Warming Up With A Seasonal Sipper
No matter what you crave, the Capitol Riverfront is ripe with options to warm your heart and soul this holiday season. Head to Blue Jacket Brewery to sample one of their four seasonal brews, including the barrel-aged swirl, a sour brown ale with strawberries, and a whiskey barrel-aged dark sour, then pick up the 4-pack sampler for the beer-lover on your list. Not a beer drinker? Head over to Scarlet Oak or Due South to sample their share of the limited-release Pappy Van Winkle bourbon before it runs out!
