Guide to moving to The Garrett during COVID-19
Moving into a new apartment home is a big task; coordinating movers, packing, switching addresses, rearranging furniture, buying new furniture, etc. The list goes on and on. Add those preparations with the fact that you have to be aware of the safety protocols of COVID-19, and the moving process suddenly turns into a bigger than normal task for new residents. At The Collective, we want all of our future residents to feel safe during their move to Navy Yard. To give you a little less to worry about as you prepare for your move to our community, we have included some useful information for all of our future residents.
Below is a list of COVID-19 moving tips you can practice to ensure your move to The Collective is as safe as possible.
1. Ask your potential, moving company plenty of questions.
There are a lot of moving companies to choose from—some more expensive than others. In a global pandemic, we understand that it’s essential to be as cost-efficient as possible. As you’re picking which moving company you want to choose from, please ask the moving company plenty of questions regarding moving safety.
Here are some of the top questions you should ask any moving company you’re inquiring about.
- What precautions are your movers taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19?
- What will you do if it is discovered that one of your movers has contracted COVID-19?
- What precautions do you recommend I take before my movers arrive?
- Do you have a list of COVID-19 FAQ I can review before scheduling my move with your company?
2. Remember to maintain at least 6-feet of social distance at all times.
As you’re directing your movers’ traffic and ensuring everything is in the right place in your apartment home, it can be easy to forget to practice social distancing. Please ensure that you are maintaining a safe distance at all times.
3. Clean and Disinfect everything your items before packing.
Remember that COVID-19 can survive up to 24 hours on cardboard and 48-72 on plastic and stainless steel. With this in mind, please be sure to thoroughly clean the items you plan to pack, as well as your surfaces. Also, be sure to wash all of your clothes before loading them into bags.
*While The Collective maintenance team does a great job at making sure your new apartment home is clean when you arrive, it will be smart to conduct a wipe down of all of the places you intend you touch frequently.
- Light switches
- Door handles
- Faucets
- Cabinets
4. Wear a mask!
This rule is the most important! Moving is a long and exhausting process, but masks MUST me worn at all times to help protect you and everyone else involved in your moving process.
Happy moving! We can’t wait to have you as a Collective resident!
