DC General Family Relocation Plan
With the closing of the DC General family shelter, city officials have asked WC Smith to help 91 homeless families, leading to the creation of the “Building Bridges to a Better Life” program. The transition from homelessness to housing is a tough one, and the Building Bridges to a Better Life program will provide housing and necessary services to make the transition easier for the 91 families.
In collaboration with several nonprofit partners and DC landlords, WC Smith is finding homes for the 91 families. Building Bridges to a Better Life won’t stop there. The program will outfit the new apartments as well as connect the families with education, health, and employment services. WC Smith anticipates that Building Bridges to a Better Life will actively support these families for at least one year after the families have been placed in permanent housing.
Contribute to Building Bridges to a Better Life
In order to outfit the new apartments with all of the necessities the families will need in their new home, a donation program has been started. Dishes, sheets, towels, kitchen supplies, and cleaning supplies are just a few of the items you will find on the donation list.
The full list of supplies that are needed is available here. Any donation, large or small, will make a difference in the lives of these families.
At The Collective, we constantly strive to provide ways for our residents to thrive on their own and in our community. Through the Building Bridges to a Better Life program, we all have the opportunity to give local families in the DC area a chance to thrive as well. The season of giving is upon us, and this is an easy way to support those in need in our very own community.
