Lap Pool
Warm, still water without having to worry about the weather: that’s what you’ll find in our two-lane 25m lap pool. Perfect for the triathlon trainer, the low-impact cardio seeker, or those just looking to burn calories and build muscle. Swimming laps can even improve your sleep and help manage stress, and you can do it all in our lap pool. Looking to teach the kids how to swim? Another great feature of the lap pool is that there is no “deep end”, making swimming lessons very convenient! Reservations can be made for 30- or 60-minute blocks via the MobileDoorman app.
Tennis Court
Looking to perfect the serve? Look no further than our private single’s tennis court! Available during daylight hours year-round, the tennis court can be reserved for up to an hour at a time and is fully enclosed by netting, so you won’t have to worry about tennis balls going over the fence. The court even has a curved and lined hitting wall so that you can practice on your own. Each summer, instructors from East Potomac Tennis Center come to our court and teach FREE clinics for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. If you don’t have a racquet, you can borrow one from the Garrett front desk.

racquetball court
Sometimes, it gets too cold, too dark, or too wet for tennis. Fortunately, the Racquetball Court is directly inside. Sure, racquetball is different from tennis, but it’s still a great way to work on hand-eye coordination as well as improve your balance, coordination, and quickness (not to mention you can burn as many as 800 in a one-hour reservation!). New to racquetball? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered – all equipment, including racquets, balls, and goggles is available at the Garrett front desk. We invite you to check out a quick overview of the basics if you’re not familiar, but feel free to grab a racquet and a ball and make up your own version!
Volleyball/wallyball
For many, volleyball is one of those sports where you may have a basic understanding of the rules, but have never played seriously. Well—we’re here help you master the spike! Every Thursday you can enjoy four hours of uninterrupted volleyball at the Basketball Courts! Come play sometime, or join your neighbors for weekly casual open gym nights. We also sponsor beach volleyball teams during the summer in a local league as well as host an internal league exclusively for our residents.
If you haven’t heard of Wallyball, it’s a bit like the less well-known cousin of volleyball. Unlike its cousin, this game is played in the racquetball court with a portable net running across the middle of the court. It’s played very similarly volleyball with the key exception that the walls are ‘in play’ and the teams are smaller. Due to this fact along with the faster pace of the game, it’s a great way to improve your coordination skills and burn a few extra calories. Court reservations can be made through MobileDoorman.

Indoor soccer
The World Cup may be every four years, but you can get your touches in weekly at open soccer nights. Using lightweight felt-covered balls and portable goals, you can practice like the pros without worrying about breaking any windows. With Spring and Fall season co–ed teams competing in local leagues, you can turn your neighbors into teammates. Looking for some ideas to sharpen your skills on your own? Check out some of these activities that you can do using just the equipment we provide.
Pickleball
No pickles required—this wildly popular sport is the fastest growing in the country. At The Collective, you have access to THREE indoor courts (two painted within the basketball court and one on the tennis court) so you can ‘pickle’ all year long. One of the reasons it has become so widely popular is that it’s very accessible with very easy to learn rules (think human sized ping pong, or mini tennis in terms of movement). Paddles, balls, and nets are available to borrow from the Garrett front desk, and you can reserve court time via MobileDoorman app either as ‘tennis court’, or ‘basketball court’ provided there are no other reservations. However, with weekly pickup games and seasonal tournaments, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn about pickleball’s kitchen, two-bounce rule, and the unique scoring system.

basketball
The basketball program at The Collective is robust and active. With three scheduled pickup games per week (two in the early evening during the week and one on Saturday mornings), two resident-exclusive leagues, and the occasional 3v3 tournament there’s plenty of action on the court. There are plenty of basketballs available to you as a resident, but you’re welcome to bring your own as well. Here is list of over 100 individual drills you can do on your own to prepare for next season!
Cycling
Did you know that DC is a gold medal recipient for bike-friendliness by the League of American Bicyclists? With an abundance of trails and parks, the weekend rider can venture out in any direction on the map and find something interesting. Or, you can simply cruise to work using an array of dedicated bike lanes on many DC streets. Even if you don’t have a bike of your own, the commuter info screens in each lobby can update you on the nearest Capitol Bikeshare stations and their availability. Residents also have the opportunity for group rides with their neighbors to local destinations and to enjoy the fall and spring foliage.

Running
Whether you’re just getting started or training for a marathon, DC has an impressive number of great running trails. New to town? Pounding the pavement is a great way to learn the neighborhood and to find your way around the city! Each Sunday morning, interested residents can meet up in the Park Chelsea lobby and head out for a few miles as a group. If you need some ideas, you can check here.
Your schedule, your style, your own fitness-on-demand lifestyle
Maybe your preferred fitness program is only available on a streaming service and you’d like a little more space to spread out than your living room has to offer. If so, you can now bring that workout to either of The Collective’s small studios (located in Park Chelsea and Agora). Each studio features a full wall mirror, exercise mats, and a big-screen TV with a Roku streaming device where you can use your phone or other mobile device to cast any workout you’d like! This is the next generation of customizable workout plan.
